Hello, I'm a 2nd year D.O. student and my grades are not good. However, my heart is set in Rad Onc and I want to do whatever it takes to get into Rad Onc. I like Physics/Math and I'm published in red journal.
I don't think I'm distinguished enough so I'm considering about I'm thinking about taking a two years off to obtain a master's degree.
My school doesn't have a combined degree program,
My questions are:
1. Would a master's degree give me an edge ?
2. When would be the good time to do it? I'm afraid that if I do something different for two years between 2nd yr and 3rd yr, I would have forgotten so much medicine that I might suffer during my rotation. Would it be better to do it after I graduate from my medical school?
3. What else can I do to increase my chances?

Thank you very much.
