Wow, I see the posts are up here...must mean it's back to the grind. Dang! Well, I'll make this quick. I've been trying to get my hands on the 7th Ed. of Robbins Path, but it appears to be out of stock most places (that I've tried). An alternative that I've found one of my path profs is using is Rubins. I don't know much about this one, so I'd appreciate any advice from folks familiar with both texts. Is Rubins as good or a perfectly good substitute if I can't get my Robbins? 😕

cheers

A wise man once said....stick to Robbins 😀

Rubins????????? never heatf of it

get the 6th ed.

true..the new edition probably will just have some new pics n updated stuff, but the basics of pathology have remained the same, since the 6th edition

Rubbins sounds like a rip off name from Robbins hahaha 😀

I've heard the new edition is a major revision. I'm having a hard time getting a hold of a copy myself, there seems to be a major shortage.

My path professor sent out a global email warning us not to buy the old edition. It is badly outdated. Anyway, I have posted links to pdf files one the first four chapters (this is all that is available for preview) of the 7th edition. Maybe this can hold you over until you can get your hands on the real goods.

you can get at barnes and noble online quickly. it ships within 24 hours and I got mine in about four days total. It's free shipping and if you're an AMSA member (or triple A incidentally), you can get 5% off. And just do a google search for coupon codes--you can definitely get another $5 off. I got it for about $89 and the list is $99. Not bad for a book published like a week ago!

Since I publish Rubin's, let me give you the low down and how to compare it to Robbins.

Major difference is that Rubin is based on clinical pathology which relates it back to patient that you are going to see.

Each chapter starts with an overview of anatomy, physiology and embryology (where relevant) as a quick reminder of what you may have forgotten from M1.

All diseases are presented based on Pathogenesis, Pathology and clinical relevance.

There is also a dedicated chapter to Diabetes Mellitis and one on Cytopathology.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

wait for the 7th edition of Robbins. according to the manager of our bookstore, they're mailing the new edition on the 18th (which will probably mean the 25th). either way, save your money and wait for robbins.

ST, you might wanna try tol order it on barnes and noble. as pillowhead said, you can get one of those discounts online, avoid the token med school bookstore markup, and with their free shipping it will still probably get there before your bookstore is stocked with it...

I concur with LD. You won't have time to read textbooks. Use Step-Up and BRS Pathology for the big picture stuff, and WebPath to fill in the details and get the images (and don't forget the quizzes there!).

our professors test on a few things and pictures directly out of robbins that are not covered in lecture, so we don't really have a choice but to buy it. I'm generally against buying unnecessary textbooks, but I'd have to say robbins seems well written so far and it is one of the big classics for physicians (like harrisons) so it might just be nice to have.

Our bookstore is giving us bound photocopies of the first 8 chapters (with permission of the publisher) until a new shipment of the 7th edition arrives. You have to pay for the book in order to get the copies and then when the book arrives you can only get a copy by turning in the photocopies.
