Hi all,
I couldn't cleary find this info on the tufts website.
Has anyone applied as a mass resident? I was planning on moving to Boston this summer and was wondering if that would qualify me. What type of things would I need to demonstrate that I live in Mass?
Thanks.

I applied as a Mass resident but qualify because I have always lived in mass. You probably need to show that you have lived in mass for a period of time( 6 or 9 or 12 months??), get a mass drivers license and register to vote.

Try calling the school?

Good luck

my guess is that you'll have to live there for at least 12 months before applying....that's how it is for almost every other school, though i don't know the specific policy at tufts...i'm in the same boat as Angelo84...I was born and raised in MA.

Most schools I've seen, it's 12 months before matriculating (i.e. actually starting school), not applying. Provided Tufts' policy is similar, you should be fine moving there (changing your driver's license, registering your car, moving your checking account, paying your 2007 taxes as a part-year MA resident... *really* moving there) this summer if you plan to apply this fall for the 08/09 school year. And provided by "moving to Boston this summer" you actually meant "and staying there" rather than moving back at the end of the summer. Living there just for the summer probably wouldn't cut it.

Okay - here's a question. I was born and raised in Massachusetts until I was 23 when I moved away. I now live in Virginia. Since I was a Massachusetts resident for 23 years can I apply for Mass residency ? I'm thinking not, but figured I'd ask. I actually still have my massachusetts id card!

how old are you?

chances are if you've been away for more than a few months, no. If it was only a few months you could claim "temp status for work" or some crap i bet, but if its been awhile then you're a resident of Va

yea, i was planning on moving to boston this summer and staying there indefinately, changing my license, the whole shibang!
does anyone know how many people do apply from mass each year. i looked and looked but it doesn't say it anywhere on their website. the most i could find is that they have around 700 aplicants, accept 80, 40 of which are mass residents. i wonder how many of those 700 are mass residents.
if anyone knows that would be so cool.

I talked to someone at Tufts and in order to be considered a Mass resident for the next app cycle, you have to have been living in Mass 1 year prior to matriculation. That means, if school starts in late August 2008, you have to be living there by that same date in August this year.

Secondly, you have to be working full time and be less than a half-time student. That means, if you're still in school full time or part-time (and you aren't originally from Mass) then you can't be considered a resident. Less than half-time student means that you can only take a maximum of 1 class/term.

I'm not sure about the drivers licence, registration to vote, etc...does anyone else?

If you moved to VA to be a student (and did not change your DL and stuff) you may still be considered an MA resident.

I don't think I'd be considered a mass resident any more - its been 5 year since I lived there. I don't have a drivers license but a mass state id and so, it never expires. I haven't bothered to switch it to virgnia because of that fact.

But I def. have Virginia residency so that's good. Not sure which is better. Tufts or VA MD.
