MAC vs PC for UCSF

They offer Dell vs MacBook. Which one is better? Do they include the textbooks in the computer? Thanks.

Either will be fine. You will be getting some 'tooth atlas' software that is only compatible with PC, but you can always use bootcamp or Parallels to use it with a Mac (although this is a bit of a pain). It comes down to which you like better personally. I own a Macbook and it has been adequate for me through the first year.

Were there any students who opted to use their own laptops rather than buying it thru the dental school?

I only know of two people who bought their computer thru the school, so i'm sure you'll be fine using your own.

Hey I have dell xps M1210 which has 12.1" screen. The recommended spec. says we need minimum of 14". Is 12.1" too small??? Do i need to get a new one?

It will be just fine. UCSF is not that high tech and many of our faculty are computer illiterate. Our radiology class is still using projection slides, the kodak films.

i don't even have to go to the GAY city to know that PC always rocks. every single company that makes dental software makes it for PC. you'll be a fu.cking idiot to buy a MAC.

You can run any program on a mac if you have windows. But why would you want to run windows on your mac and risk having it freeze up and crash?

Watch the language, please. It's alright if you disagree with someone's opinion, but profanity is not appriciated nor tolerated. A lot of companies that produce both medical and dental software also have a Mac version as well. Some companies even produce Mac only products. At UTHSCSA we had the choice between a Dell and a MacBook Pro. Just over half our class went with the Mac. I have never used a Mac until now, and I absolutely love it. I haven't really heard of any problems from my classmates with either model. Our textbooks on VitalSource run great on both computers. We have an interactive tooth atlas our school is "trying out" to see if it is something they need to add to our textbook package, and we were told it will work with both PC and Mac (without running parallels). I don't think there is really any downside to having one and not the other, it's just whether or not you want to switch over or use something you are more accustomed to.
