Just wondering............after this semester ends i have 3 weeks before my Microbiology class starts in the summer session.....the school is offering a Macroecon class in a 3 week session. Is it worth taking? any dental schools require it? or is it a waste of time/money? Thank you

Congrats to all those that got in this cycle. 🙂

I took it last term, pretty boring if you ask me. I think business majors should have the suicide myth, not dentists. I have seen some schools recommend taking it but none that I know of require it. If you don't need any credits from the class I wouldn't take it because it is pretty boring and a waste of money.

From an econ major's perspective, I think microeconomics would be a better class to take than macro since you learn more about individual businesses, which might come in handy if you open up your own practice.

None of the schools I applied to required any kind of economics specifically, but one of them did require a certain number of credit hours devoted to social sciences, humanities, and/or foreign languages.

I have a degree in Economics and another in business (finance). When interviewing at different dental schools, I was never asked about it, nor was anyone impressed. If your looking for knowledge to help you run a better practice, then take a gerneral business class. Most of these classes focus on small amounts of accounting, marketing, etc.

I'm taikng Macro right now, and I don't find it particular exciting. It's very useful though, and teaches you alot about how the economy works, like understanding phenomena like inflation, unemployment, economic growth etc.

About the only benefit you'll get from that class is finding out whether your University subscribes to the Keynesian or Monatarist point of view regarding econmics.

Take a course in Management Science instead, or marketing for health care professionals (if your school offers a course similar). The management science class is all about quantitatively making business decisions. It teaches you some useful skills that you may very well be able to take advantage of when you are running your own practice.

I agree with hardbody.

I am planning on taking a course offered in the business school titled "the business of healthcare". It seems like it actually might apply to something you might end up doing, as opposed to 90% of what you take in college. That its being offered by an easy emeritus faculty that I know doesn't hurt either.

Oh and at our school you are required to take micro before macro...maybe its just structured that way here.
