Made Ridiculously Simple vs Kaplan Microbiology

Doing Micro for the first time, I know its going to be a weakness on the boards, and am wondering what is the best book to learn from. IM thinking made simple because it is very easy to read, from those test takers, what do u recommend?

I only made it through half of Clinical Micro Made Ridiculously Simple before the boards, and that was one of my big regrets... The illustrations and mnemonics really helped me retain the information I did get through (a big deal because Micro has so much to memorize...) And once I get my scores back, I'm going to read the rest of Clinical Micro just for background information before the rest of my rotations (I'm scared to read the rest right now for fear that I'll find more questions that I've missed; a situation that's already keeping me up at night:scared:)

I didn't really go through much of the Kaplan set, so I can't really give a fair head to head comparison, though...

the virology section in Micro made Ridiculously simple has so much more information than First Aid. So many viruses were not mentioned at all in FA. This makes me think that FA is not sufficient...

Can anyone else comment on this with kaplan set? I do not have the kaplan stuff...

I am doing Micro now as well and soon to finish it.
But I am reading from Levnson.
I know it should be only for Immuno, but I liked the micro too, I still have time hopfully.
But here what I read from it:
Only the (pearls) for basic bacteriology, virology and mycology.
All clinical bacteriology, virology, mycology and now reading parasitology.
after that I will read the cases in the end of the book.

the bacteriology and mycology are easy...
but the virology took alot of time🙁

I havn't taken the boards yet, but my school uses computers for our micro tests, which have questions from the NBME. I studied a ton out of micro made simple, and am soo happy that I did. I also spent time going over a lot of the bacteria and virus's with the kaplan micro book and videos, but found them to be relatively lacking. One good thing about kaplan is that they cover a specific organism like staph aureus, for example really quickly in like 5 minutes, and then move on. I found that kaplan is great for a quick review, but does not provide info on the little details that are covered with great pics and memonics in micro made simple. I am going to continue using micro made simple, and I absolutely love the deja review microbiology book, because it gives the question and answer format for all the pertinent info. Good luck!
