New EM intern here. Just wanted to say thanks for all the advice in the past as well as good luck to all my fellow PGY1s. Man it is wierd to see patients and not have to explain that you are a med student and the real doc will see you in a couple of min. Dictation is a pain in the ass, especially when people keep interupting you. My head has been swimming during my first 2 shifts. It's all good though...my second shift and I was already in on an ED thoracotomy. Same trauma surgeon had replaced this guys aorta after near transection 3 years earlier. Now I run to all the trauma codes and am disappointed when it's just a fractured femur.

Welcome! Glad that SDN has helped you in the past... please, join and stay within the community!

Had a thoracotomy in the ED last night, unfortunately I was two hours late, but at least one of our EM interns got to do it.
