So I'm trudging through the interview season, taking in what is easily the most enjoyable part of the application process. I've done 5 interviews and gotten two acceptances so far, no waitlists and only a single reject from Mayo as soon as they got my check.

I'd heard from others on the interview tour that they had to call certain schools to hear that they'd been awarded an interview. "Madness," I thought. Certainly schools would inform applicants one way or another if they could schedule an interview. But sure enough, I called Tulane today after hearing nothing for a long time, and they told me I'd been awarded an interview and they'd send me a note with the date and time for confirmation. Madness... really. Does anybody know of other schools that you have to call to receive your interview invite? The only other one that I can remember is Wake that one guy told me.

perhaps im wrong but it doesnt quite sound like tulane was waiting for your call before dispatching the notification; it seems like they just havent sent it out yet and will do so on their schedule.
oh, and thanks for the info in your first paragraph; ive been checking the list for days waiting for an update on your status

We have to call for a Wake interview? Does anyone know if they send out invites without a call? Calling to me sounds presumptuous...but if I have to call, I will.

If you have gotten an e-mail from Wake saying that you are complete...CALL THEM ASAP and inquire about your status. If you are lucky enough to be in the top interview pool, you can schedule your interview right then and there. Right now, you can probably get an interview in January. If you wait for them to inform you that you are in the top interview pool, you may end up interviewing in March or April.

I will echo what the OP said about Tulane and Wake. I don't know of other schools to add to that list.

If you are lucky enough to be in the top interview pool, you can schedule your interview right then and there. Right now, you can probably get an interview in January. If you wait for them to inform you that you are in the top interview pool, you may end up interviewing in March or April.

The same thing happened with UIC (to all IL residents) I had to check my status page to see that I had been offered an interview

I called Tulane last week to check my status, and the woman said I would hear back in "a few weeks," as my file was under review. To my surprise, I received an invitation to interview yesterday, with the letter dated one day before the day I called!(?)

I also tried rescheduling my interview day to no avail. The secretary said they are booked until March, though I was a bit suspicious that they would be full already...
