anybody know the details of this program?
i am a little surprised, pleasantly, to be invited....i can't imagine a place more different than palm beach guess i would have to learn to ski

I interviewed at this program last year. I thought it was a good place. The program is staffed by a private practice anesthesiology group so you will get more experience with the business side of practice. They are very busy, and the didactic/academic side of the program is sometimes sacrificed. Portland, Maine is one of the most beautiful places I have visited, but the cost of living is somewhat high. I thought the faculty seemed excellent, many of them trained at high powered programs and came to practice in Maine because it's a great place to live. They do a good number of cardiac cases. I got the feeling from the residents that they work hard, but they all seemed happy. The regional and critical care experience seemed to be somewhat of a weakness. Other than that, I liked the program but did not end up ranking it, mainly because it would have been a cross country move for my family.

Our didactics are improving, Lectures M-W afternoon, Thursday morning, and Grand rounds thurs morning too.
Regional has been revamped over the last 15 months, and has actually become a very busy rotation that is high quality.
ICU is weak in term of total months, 1 as intern, 2 as CA-2, but again, I think that is a plus (not interested in ICU) and can do more as a CA-3
Tons of Cardiac cases, no fellows, do as many TEE as you want
Ob : you will do >300 epidurals in first year alone (not an error) very busy
Sub specialty rotations first year include: Ob, Vascular-Thoracic, Peds, Neuro,
Portland is a great little city. Nice outdoor activities, beaches 15 minutes, mountains 2 hours, tons of paves walking/biking paths through city.
Residents laid back, but bright, probably could have gone anywhere, but chose this place.
