Hi,

I'm pre med, and I'm considering majoring in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Miami.

I'm a sophomore, so I really have to decide this semester.

I currently declared Maths as my major, and if I don't switch to BME, I will certainly also major in Chemistry.

The thing is that I'm an International Student, and that my chances are restricted, so I have to get a back up plan.

I really love Chemistry, and especially Maths, but BME seems so great.

I don't really know which choice would be the best one regarding med school...

Any advice would be appreciated,

Thank you,

Jonathan

The best choice is the one you love the most. Any benefit from choice of major with respect to med school admission is minuscule if it exists.

Applied mathematician here. Math is very useful in many different career paths (research, industry, business), and many places will hire you with only a B.S. in mathematics or statistics.

Since you're an international student, as a backup option BME is great. It's definitely harder, but you have more job options if med school doesn't work out.
