I am applying for a second bachelor's in order to get an earlier registration date to take a few pre-requisites. The only majors relevant to vetmed are biology and chemistry. I however already have a bachelors in biology so I am not sure if I should then pick chemistry or not. They do offer a bio degree with a concentration in molecular biology which I did not do for my bachelors but I have already taken 90%+ of the courses required for the degree. They also offer a bio degree with concentration in biomedical sciences but I also have taken almost all the courses for this concentration as well (I did not have a formal concentration but mainly took ecology type classes in undergrad for my electives). Does it matter what major you choose?

Thank you

Does not matter at all, especially if you don't actually plan on completing the degree. Chem or biochem would be logical choices but anything where the prereqs you need are also degree requirements would work. Bio may not work if you already have a degree in that field.

Make sure you look over the program information carefully - at UCF you're not actually allowed to start a second bachelors that shares a certain number of common requirements with the field your first one was in.

It doesn't matter what you declare your major as as far as the vet schools go though, if you aren't planning on finishing it. You could apply as an English major for all they care.

Yea maybe it would be wise to pick a major that has no relevance to biology as I do not want to run into issues as stated where they deny you since you have most of the same courses already taken. I thought it would look better for vet school admissions if you had a biology-related major.

Nope, sometimes quite the opposite. Almost everyone has a bio related major. Absolutely everyone takes the same prereqs. Someone who has studied a different field will be different and will stand out for that reason.

What about business? If you ever plan on owning a practice or being a partner, business would come in handy. You won't have to repeat classes and you'll learn a lot. If I ever go back and get another degree, since mine will be in Bio & Animal Science, I'd do business. 🙂

I suggest picking something fun that you will enjoy --one of the perks of doing this is that it often makes something memorable that you can enthusiastically discuss in interviews.

Jamr0ckin -> I couldn't agree with you more! I think business is an awesome degree to have because a large percentage of veterinarians go into private practice. Also, having a Bachelors in Business would expand your possible employment opportunities before you get your DVM. Even if you don't want to finish the degree, just being part of a business program would probably help you stand out to adcoms.
