Hey guys! Thus far I have been invited to interview at DMU (9/19) and UHS (9/25). Finding resonable plane tickets for UHS was easy (spent $156 for it). HOWEVER finding a resonable ticket to get to Des Moines IS NOT HAPPENING! The cheapest ticket is about $450 and THAT IS TOO MUCH MONEY. I would like to interview at DMU but I CANNOT spend that much on one school. I have looked everywhere for cheap ticket and even tried looking under other dates. DMU in not one of my top schools, but I don't want to close the door on the opportunity. With it being so early in this process, there is no guarruntee that I will get other interviews. (I guess this was a good start). If anyone has any advice, I would love to hear it.

when i applied DMU offered interviews in other parts of the country....i don't know if that is still the case. It may be cheaper to fly to an interview area....
It's a good school.

Out of MSY(New Orleans) Southwest is offering 14 day advance booking internet only purchases of 1 way tickets for 99 bucks. You will go through MDW(chicago midway ugggh) to OMA (Omaha) where you'd have a 135 mile drive to DSM
(Des Moines). Assuming of course that you are in Louisiana.

try studentuniverse.com or maybe take jet blue to a nearby city and take a train

I have tried all of those internet sites and all the tickets are $500-$600. Rescheduling is not the problem. IT IS EXPENSIVE TO FLY INTO DES MOINES AT ANY TIME. It would take 3 days to get to Des Moines via Greyhound. School has started and I have to miss as less as possible.

bobg504, I sent you a PM 🙂

ROADTRIP!!!!!!!

Rent a car and hit the road. Its a lot of fun!

first, take a deep breath. there are a million other students trying to figure out transportation to distant schools also. if you haven't gotten other interviews yet, it would be STUPID to skip this one, even if it isn't your first choice. getting interviews and acceptances is a fluke process, so you have no idea how things will turn out. i understand that it is expensive to fly, and it can be expensive to rent a car. i think a road trip sounds like your best option if money is the biggest issue. if you don't have your own car, find a friend who does and then book a cheap hotel. if you have to shell out the money and fly, then do it. you would KICK yourself if this was the only interview you landed and you didn't take it. even if you get others, this interview will be good practice for those interviews at your preferred schools. my first interview was terrible, i was so nervous, but i was so glad it was at my least favorite. a practice interview is PRICELESS. heck, pan handle on the corner if you have too- you're not the first broke student. i had to have my parents fly me home and then i drove their car to interview, drove home, and then flew back to school. i owed my parents a crapload by the end of the application process, which i just paid back with my fabulous student loan. don't worry, you'll figure it out.

bobg504 i just sent you a PM!

I am not saying that you should do this, but it's just a thought. If you prefer UHS over DMU, then you can perhaps skip the DMU interview. UHS has approx. a 90% acceptance rate if you get an interview, and this applies even more if you interview early. Your interview on the 25th is one of their first. I don't know if you want to take that risk or not.
