So after a rough two years (freshman was an adjusting period and organic basically flat-lined my sophomore year) i have switched majors from to finance I like finance, but i'm just so discouraged to think that i'm not going to be a doctor. it's really all i ever saw myself doing. someone please tell me i did the right thing because obsessed with med school and now i basically have no chance.🙁

You sound discouraged, sorry you feel that way. But from what I understand, your major doesn't play a major role in your application🙂laugh🙂. Make sure your GPA is better than a 3.5 and MCAT above a 30, get some clinical experience, and maybe some research so that you'll give yourself the best chance for admission. Choose a major that you like and can get the best GPA in, don't get discouraged and think positive!

meh, picking any major from the get go is fine. but switching out of a premed or bio major into something else .... i dunno this might look bad i.e that you couldn't handle it then switched out.

this is assuming that med school can see your major change... not sure on this tho.

You do have a chance if you can figure out how to get As in science and math. If you retake classes you did poorly in, DO med schools only include the most recently earned grade. AMCAS (MD) will average the grades in with all your other grades.

And Double Bonded is right that your major isn't relevant, so long as you complete the prerequisites.

We've seen folks come back from straight Fs for a semester. If you want to be a physician badly enough, you can still do it.

You don't need to major in biology to go to medical school. You do need to be able to do well in your premed courses. Some classes are tougher than others (which one is different for each student). You don't need to give up if one class is giving you a hard time. You hardly use concepts from organic chemistry in medical school. Hope this helps.

If you're not excited and focused on going into finance, why do YOU think you did the right thing? Maybe you just gave up too soon

thanks guys! i know o-chem is barely used (if even at all) while studying to be a physician which is what truly frustrated me..i did so bad it just bascially made me think the chances of me getting into med school were shot. I love anatomy and physiology, even the boring old basic bio class. If i had time to re-do it (and do it MUCH better somehow) then i would. I think a non-science major was the best fit for me from the get-go, but i was a little stubborn when picking a major originally. Also, i dont think they can see the major change but it might be evident to them with the listing of classes (and what order i took them in) on my transcript. I just want to salvage my gpa and be (relatively) stress-free for a change. I just keep day-dreaming about it.. and seeing older friends who have begun medical school this fall doesn't help. maybe i'll take some time off after and do a post bacc? or maybe take the classes over and apply after my senior year? either way, ochem just killed my gpa and i'm not sure i'd be willing to subject myself to that again.

i may pick up physics next semester and either do the second half over the summer or in the fall, and re-take ochem (probably summer since i will be at school anyway) and then i'd try to apply at the end of my senior year..since my gpa is so low right now. i want to keep my new major as a solid back up plan but i cant quite give up on my dream of being a doctor just yet 🙁:help:

my ultimate dream school is osu, and a close second is cincinnati. i'm from ohio, does anyone have any inside knowledge/experience about these programs?
