does it matter which major you have for med school, if I complete the basic sciences required + biochem + genetics + physiology/anatomy? Thanks all

Last I heard, NO. As long as you complete the prerequisites you are fine.

Hey Spongiebob,

This is directly from the DMU website - (in addition to the science prereqs): "To be considered for admission, you must have a bachelor's degree or complete the requirements for a degree before matriculation. We consider applicants regardless of major or field of study, as long as the degree is from an accredited school." I think most, if not all schools follow the same procedure.

I majored in Russian and took the minimum required science. I got in to all my top choice schools. You should study something you like so A) you will get better grades and B) so you have a back-up plan if medicine doesn't work out.
 
Schools will look at applicants of any major... in fact, I wish I had known this. Furthermore, I know that many schools love nontraditional applicants and even provide statistics on the undergrad majors that matriculate into their school each year.

PS - One med student told me that it is usually majors other than bio that end up performing better in med school! Don't know if it's true but very interesting 🙂
