So I have read time and time again regarding acceptance rates and that majors do not matter it's what you get on your sciences and final GPA that matters plus the rest. The thing is that I just switched from a biology major to nutrition and I am searching for any advice. Would Nutrition be a good study? And also I keep coming across the criticism that Nutrition is an "easy" major that's looked down upon by medical school admissions. But from what I've seen the course requirements are just as hard and tedious. Nonetheless, any advice would be much appreciated thanks! 😀

Hi OP,

I'm actually a nutrition major. Unless you're truly interested, you're better off with biology.

I have this fear that most people view nutrition as a soft science (in some ways it is), but my science GPA is pretty damn good, so I don't feel I have anything to prove in that regard. I have never heard of medical school admissions thinking it was an "easy" major. As long as you do well in your overall GPA, science GPA, and MCAT (assuming you also keep up with your ECs) you're golden no matter what major you have.

But remember, MD admissions may ask why you chose nutrition in an interview. Be sure you can answer this question genuinely.

I switched because Nutrition genuinely interested me way more then biology. I just wanted to get some feedback from everyone. Thank you guys!

As someone who has done the "health" thing as a nursing major, I can say that I would not do nutrition, RT, nursing, or the like simply because there is a bias towards these majors. Anything else, though, is free game.

Nutrition is pretty cool. A lot of the health problems that we see can be attributed to our poor diets. I see value in having a good understanding of nutrition, but adcoms might not. Historically, nutrition has been not been focused on in medical training. Hopefully this will change.

If you truly love nutrition, then do it. Every single doctor I have shadowed this year gave me the same advice. They all majored in the typical science, but if they had to do it again, they said they would major in history or whatever. If you enjoy the subject, then a high GPA will be easily attainable.
