Whoa, I wanna take that class! I wish I could take a class on the philosophical implications of the modern understanding of genetics (IMO the mechanics of DNA suggest nihilism, for instance).

Most schools' philosophy department at least has a class that is related to the ethics of science, or along those lines. If you are interested you should talk to someone in the department.

Medical Technology.... super cool major, and you learn stuff from ms1 and 2 actually, which in my mind is actually kind of a negative.

Wish I would have taken more time to explore in college. Preferable majors include comparative studies, finance, polisci, biochem.

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
Dreading the 8 hour arranged lab time senior year...

BS in Physics, BA in Astronomy with a Minor in Math.

My advice is take what interests you and go where the good teachers are!

Doubling in dance and international studies, planning on doing pre-reqs in a post bacc.

Wow, two dance majors in a row. I've met a pre-med music major, and I thought that was far out!

BA in Behavioral Neuroscience/Psychology
BS in Clinical Laboratory Science

CLS is amazing. It is an incredible background for medicine and is practical, applied science. Plus you get butt-loads of clinical hours from lab rotations. Starting pay around $30 an hour upon graduation doesn't hurt, either 🙂

It was a great class. I went to a small LAC, so we didn't have anything as specific as the philosophy of modern genetics, but it would be interesting. Certainly most departments will discuss the different philosophies of science and their effect on modern philosophical thought. We definitely talked about whether absolute naturalism in science logically lead to moral and/or existential nihilism.

I definitely suggest taking a course in philosophy, especially if it deals with the natural sciences. It really makes you realize that there's not "a philosophy of science" but actually "philosophies of science".

Biology major currently, if med school didn't work out I would still stick with bio and it's the only science i've managed to get by with.
I like it thus far but there's no saying what i'll enjoy a year from now.

Currently BioChem. But I don't think I want to major in it. I think I want to do Human Nutrition.

Well, I have the perfect set-up for a Biochemistry major but I'm also interested in Japanese Language and Culture, Mathematics, and Economics.

As of right now I'm a Mathematics [Statistics] and Biochemistry double major, with a minor in Japanese. The math background is a solid backup for being an Actuary or Statistician if Medical School falls through.

What do you mean by the "perfect set-up for a Biochemistry major"?

I'm a Biochem major too.

Started Bio, then switched to EE. Yeah. I was one of those wierd ones. Critiquing scientific papers (and my ability to do so) was the deal-breaker. That, and I couldn't write lab reports worth my life.

Segued into BME (grad school). Loved the engineering in both fields. Kind of miss it, but maybe something can come of them in the future.

Psychology + Biology double major

Chemistry minor

Majoring in Biology. Thought about changing to Music, but not sure if it'll be worth the hassle and I may just keep it as my "get-away" from school stress.

If I do stay Biology, I'm either gonna concentrate in Marine or Micro bio, I <3 scuba diving 😀

I think Biochemistry is a great back up major.😀 At least you can work in some pharm industries, really heave lab base.

What year student are you, and how difficult is physics? What types of classes have you taken/will you take?

I will be graduating this year. I have taken up through ordinary differential equations/linear algebra and have about 36 physics credits thus far. This semester I am taking Theoretical Mechanics. For the spring I will be taking Quantum Mechanics and Electromagnetic Fields.

This degree started off relatively easy compared to the classes I have now. I have to spend 15-20 hours per week in mechanics just to complete the assignments. Out of 14 of us, there is 1 person who has an "A"; I have the third highest with a "B".

If you want to major in physics because you think it will impress someone, then don't. Only major in it if you absolutely love physics and if you are good at it. Otherwise you'll find yourself beating your head against a wall at 2 am when you still have 4 problems to complete and you have to rewrite your entire assignment because you erased so much on your first draft.

BA in Classics
Minors in East Asian Studies, Italian, and Biology

I am an English major (British and American Literature option) minoring in French and maybe Biology. It's a lot of work but very much worth it =]

Microbiology with a minor in sociology, maybe communications. Was previously an advertising major.

Biological Anthropology and Anatomy (concentration in anatomy) and chemistry minor.

I'm taking biological-anthro next quarter. I hope it is as cool as I think it is going to be.

Lol I have a couple of physics major friends and they would all agree with you one hundred percent. Even though I'm a biology major, I personally think that physics is THE hardest major out there. Some really smart physics majors I know have around a 3.3-3.4 GPA. I definitely think that a 3.5 gpa in physics >>> 3.8 in biology

I like math and physics but the average GPA of physics majors scares me off. Then again I go to a liberal arts school with a tiny physics department, so maybe they're a little easier with grading.

Just wondering what you all are majoring in if it isn't pre-med? I myself am currently in Biology, but don't know if I want to stay in it, just because all of the work needed. That the fact that I do not want to go into Biology, so I feel that all that work will be wasted. What are some of you alls majors?

OMG FOR THE LAST TIME. PRE MED ISN'T A MAJOR!!!! noobs

Finance..emphasis in real estate

Sports Medicine major here. Exercise physiology/human anatomy/neuroscience/biomechanics = way more useful and interesting than studying plants in a Bio major! 😀

Physical Education

Represent!

Health & Kinesiology here, but I'm a non-trad. Almost decided to get my masters in Exercise Phys but didn't.

Jedi, completely agree, I loved my undergrad classes while my fellow pre-meds hated on theirs.
Like Margaret Cho says, "we at same place"!

I expected to see more neuroscience people. I'm guessing more than half of the people in my neurolab course are applying to med school.

I'm a Biochem major too.

Well, for example, this year I'm taking Calc, Physics, and GChem. Summer will be OChem. Next year it'll be Cell Biology, PChem, Biochemistry and other related courses. These are all courses that I genuinely want to take (and most of them I have to take anyway for medical school). After sophomore year, I'll only need a summer of research and a couple classes to fulfill my biochemistry major requirements. It's the perfect set-up. This is why I want to add on a math major, because I not only enjoy it so much, but it is also compliments upper level biochemistry in many ways plus it can be used a practical backup. Then there's also the fact that math majors historically have done very well on the MCAT.

B.HS in Physiology
B.S in Microbiology
B.S in Molecular & Cellular Biology

zomg so much scienceeeee :scared:

Going for my BS in Biology... Though it's very subject to change. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Bio, but I've thought about Anthropology on more than one occasion. Human diversity is just way too interesting.
