Hi,
I will start medical school next year and definitely will need to get federal loans. My relatives agree to loan me 500-800/month without interest, and my family will support my expenses for food and/or housing. I want to minimize the loans that I will take to only fees and tuition.

I plan to make payment while in school, maybe about 500/month through out my medical school to reduce the interest. I learned about the forgiveness program, and I am passionate to work at undeserved areas. I like psychiatry (#1 choice), family medicine, and pediatrics.

My question is that if I am allowed to make payments while in school? Should I not make payment and apply for the forgiveness program while in residency?

you should lower your burden as much as possible while in school.
