Is there a simple way to make sure a program knows that you're going to be doing an away rotation, either at their program/hospital or another one in the same geographic area? I ask because my school doesn't list future rotations on the transcript, so unless a program cross checks names or something I don't see how they would even know. I would hate to have an away scheduled for January with a program that decided not to interview me but would have if they had known of my strong interest.

Or am I being ridiculous?

You're sort of being ridiculous but, if you don't hear from those programs by mid-November, call them and let them know you'll be in town in January and would love to interview there. Also, if you (worst case) get a rejection from the program you're rotating at you can potentially salvage that by telling them about the upcoming rotation in their backyard.
