So basically, I like to take as many short cuts as possible. I'm currently considering applying to AUC in the future as it states that its program is 38 months. So basically, if I start in January 2006, will that leave enough time for USMLE scores to come back and to get ECFMG certified in order to make it for the July 1, 2009 match? Or do I have no hope and all and must take some time off till the July 1, 2010 match? Also, once you get your Step I scores back and passed, and say it is November 1, do you automatically start rotations right away, or do you have to wait till the beginning of the next semester to start rotations? Does AUC have a prominent break in between semesters?

How about the same scenario for SGU, Ross, Saba, or SMU? 😕

Just realize that the number of weeks that a school states doesn't usually take into account the breaks between semesters (~2 weeks in between basic sci semesters) and the time you'll probably want to take to take Step I (~1 or 2 months), wait for scores to get back to you (another month), time it takes for your school to then generate a rotation schedule for you (a week or two), and the time you'll probably take off go on the bulk of your residency interviews (couple/few weeks). So in essence, that 38 months will probably actually be stretched out to well into your fourth year. Let's say you start in May or September of 2005, even if you did finish in 38 months, you won't be able to start residency until July 1, 2009... unless you somehow land something with a non-traditional start date which is quite rare.

How about the same scenario for SGU, Ross, Saba, or SMU? 😕

Similar scenario for Ross, but as AWDC says you have to account for breaks, scheduling hiccups, etc. It can be done as you suggest, but it ain't that easy... especially if you, like a lot of well-intentioned gunners, run into a few stumbling blocks along the way.
