Anyone know of a company that will supplement my malpractice. I am covered for 600,000 by my school, but another program requires 1,000,000. Where do i start with this and how much is it gonna cost me?
thanks

Did you talk to your school? They should be able to offer supplemental insurance for a small fee.

More information please.
Are you planning a month rotation elsewhere, or something else?

Yeah, some schools/programs have different coverage requirements...my school doesn't cover us for 1,000,000, but a program in a different state requires that much. I'm looking for a plan that will boost my coverage for the month i'm away. Apparently this happens a good bit (at my school anyway) and i hear it may be up to $1300 (because you have to buy it by the year, not month. this is a lot, but probably worth it in the long run for me to see if this is the program for me.
thanks,

Damn $1300 is a lot of change to drop to check out a program. I would most def ask someone at school or current m4's how they handled this. I mean this coverage thing holds for all specialties so maybe someone can help you out with info.

When I was a student I faced a similar situation. My coverage max was 500k and I needed 1 mil. I was able to supplement for a couple hundred dollars at most. That was for the month. I didn't need to supplement for the year.

Just tell the program you're going to rotate at that you don't plan to kill anyone, at least for the month you're rotating there. Maybe they'll wave the extra coverage.

Definitely, away rotations cost so much more just doing them anyway, if I had to pay extra in insurance I would have just stuck to alabama.

I did an away rotation in Jacksonville. Cost me $500 in UF tuition, plus $300 in gas (both ways) and $200 per week in rent.

Oh yeah, the rear-end on my car exploded a week after I got there, cost to fix: $2000.

All in all an expensive affair.

I rotated at Orlando.. They hook it up with a place to crash about $240 for the 4 weeks. They give you enough food coupons to eat for free and the Drs Lounge is always accessible to you as well (with food). Great Program.. if you have Qs PM me.. I had a real good time there.

My rotation at UC-Irvine = 200 dollar flight, 400 rent a car (not sure how much in gas), 40 dollar parking on wrong side of street meter ticket, 210 dollar handicap rampway ticket (there was no sign, and I was BARELY in the red curb, the people I was staying with said they've NEVER seen that ticket before). Plus the standard expense of 500 bucks at the apartment here in alabama! away rotations are EXPENSIVE! but I was happy I did them, they were good haha.

Rotation in Philly:
Housing: 1000
Parking: 220
Food: Approx 500
Drink: Who knows....
Final cost: Largely negated by a lucky trip to Atlantic City...

And matched at my number 1 where I was doing an away that month!

haha funny, I knew I should have gone gambling in vegas!

I faced similar circumstances. Instead of paying the extra fee, I just did rotations at places that required the same amount of malpractice. I did rotations at two different places, neither of which was my #1, and still matched at my #1. Auditons are good, but experiencing different types of programs, different shifts (8h vs 12 h), etc. is more worthwhile, IMHO.
