Hey guys,

I just wanted to know if there was any hope of malpractice insurance rates for obgyn's to decrease anytime soon.

Its a sad fact that ob's get sued so much....i was thinking about malpractice rates while listening to the radio and just then there was another advertisement encouraging parents with kids with cerebral palsy to sue their ob's. i think it is getting rather ridiculous.

i am debating between peds and ob (maternal fetal med or ivf probably). do those two fields of ob have very high malpractice insurance as well. how often are ob's sued?..much more than other docs?

thanks.

MFM is high risk OB so, of course, the malpractice premium is huge.

It is my understanding that MFM malpractice is actually cheaper. MFM patients have a lower expectation of their situation, hence the high risk consult. It is that 30 y/o upper middle class mom that has the poor outcome of an otherwise healthy pregnancy that will land your but in court. I just finished my ob/gyn rotation and was told this info by the cheif resident. maybe some of the other current residence could correct me if I'm wrong.
