I live in a state with malpractice caps on awards.

I have heard of cases though where doctors were sued beyond the cap.

Is there a limit to what malpractice insurance would cover that then comes out of the doctors pocket? What limit is that typically?

The cap is on non-economic (punitive) damages.

Most medical liability policies have limits. Can't remember what they typically are.

Would refer you to TMLT for further info.

great articles about this that will explain it far better than I can do succinctly at www.memag.com.
