Hi Everyone, I'm new here... the site was recommended to me and I must say the community looks great.
I was wondering if anyone has any data on or knows of any sources from which I could get the values for the following; human, equine and either cat or dog respiratory rates, things such as;

Tidal volume (Vt)
Inspiration reserve volume (IRV)
Expiration reserve volume (ERV)
Residual volume (RV)
Respiratory frequency (Rf)
Expiration volume (VE)
Vital capacity (VC)
Forced expiration volume (FEV)
Forced vital capacity (FVC)

For each species I ideally need them at rest and for the diseased.
(any 1 disease per species, such as equine COPD)

I av been looking everywhere and na-da, so thought I'd open it up to you guy's!

Anyone?

Thanks in advance... Jack😀

1. Only post on one forum or the other, one of these will be shut down.
2. What do you need this for - SDN isn't really for homework help.

Firstly, I was unsure to where my post would be most applicable and was unaware that my actions contravened any reg's... but if so I apologise for that.
Secondly, with regard to the contents of my post, I am merely looking for raw data / stats and most certainly not any type of 'coaching!'
You can discuss veterinary topics here...right?

Of course you can, but your question was simply asking for a bunch of raw data. You didn't really leave anything open to discussion.

Wow, way to be rough on a new poster. Plenty of people get on here and ask "anyone know where I can get info on ..." Why should that be wrong?

Anyway, for something like normal values of something specific like respiratory physiology, you're best bet would be textbooks. I wouldn't trust what someone said or 99% of sources on the internet. Go to your university library and find some animal physiology textbooks or better yet would be respiratory physiology books though I doubt that a general university library would have something like that. If there's a vet school library or a specific animal science library that you can access, those would be more likely to have what you need.

If you can't find books, look at medical/ veterinary journals. If there's a study on respiratory physiology, they will generally give normal values so the reader can compare without having to know the info already. You can also look at the textbooks in the school's bookstore if there are used/unwrapped ones that you can browse while in the store, it's just harder to search for the info you need. Otherwise, go to a professor in Biology or Animal Science department and tell them that you need help finding this information.

Because the content in the question is best suited for a librarian.

Also, its annoying to be asked to do people's homework for them.

Hi guys, I'm having trouble with finding raw data on NINE various respiratory volumes for THREE different species. Oh and I need them both at rest and diseased please, thanks.
Sorry brother I'd have to look that up myself. And even if I didn't, even if I was brilliant enough to cough alllll those values up... HOW is this question well suited for an online discussion group?

And the thing is, we get tonnes of these sort of questions on here, along with the constant "I Think My Pet Is Sick & I'd Rather Google It Than Pay My Veterinarian" questions. So after a few years it becomes a pet peeve.

And this is me being harsh on the new poster.

I wasn't being rude to a new poster. It is called a textbook and it is where someone should go if they need information of this context. This forum is to exchange ideas relating to the veterinary field that aren't "concrete" and is to promote discussion. This forum isn't to answer questions that would be better answered via textbooks/scientific journals.

Well... I'm truely sorry to have upset you all. I wasn't asking if someone could RESEARCH THEM ALL! Just that, that was what I had been looking for and if anyone knew any of them!
And brother, in no way was I asking you to do my thesis or 'homework' as you call it!
Haven't you ever turned to someone and said 'Hey do you now this or that?' thats the beginning of a discussion as far as I'm aware!

Anyway, I'm stuck in quite a remote place atm, doing my extra mural studies so thats why I'm not at a library. Huge mistake coming here though.
I have areas of interest and would have gladly helped and participated within the community where ever possible.
I'll stick to UK and Euro sites where the emphasis is on helping eachother.

Don't get wrong, I'm quite sad that this as been my experience of the US vet med community.

I won't bother you all again. Bye.

My thanks to those who were constructive.
And I concur with regard to the 'my pet's sick, now diagnose it for me' arguement thats just stupid.
