Mandatory electronic prescribing in NYS for all controls and hydrocodone sched 2. Any other states do this?

In my state, its illegal to e-scribe controls, which makes no sense to me (its a lot easier to verify the veracity of an e-scribe than a phone message.)

I can't see making it mandatory (is there an exception for emergency scripts or institutional scripts? I don't know of any ER that uses e-scribe, at least in my area) But I could see it being encouraged, I would like to see my state law changed to allow it.

Funny thing is, it's the same for NY currently. Wondering how this change will roll out. Sounds good in theory. Hydrocodone becoming a CII sounded like a huge pita, but if it's e-scribed, that might lessen the burden of not getting refills allowed.

Of course all of this is moot until the DEA posts regulations to e-precribing controls of any type. At present it is prohibited.....

Note the date. The regulations for testing the software have been completed.....
My understanding was that it was technically legal, but there were currently no software applications that were endorsed for that purpose. If a system has been developed, it should be ready to go live as soon as it's given the DEA green light.

In addition, the pharmacy software vendor must also be endorsed, not just the MD sending the RXS. We are ways away from e-scripts for controls....

Starting tomorrow, 6/12/12, 7-8 states including Texas will allow E-Rxs for CIIs - CVs. We actually just got an email to let all techs/pharmacists know.
