I'm not sure about Manhattanville's program except that the school is expensive. If you're strapped for cash, maybe you should check out Purchase College. It's (literally) right down the road and you pay public university tuition. As far as Purchase's post-bacc program, all I can say is that the natural science dep't there takes their classes very seriously. THe bio and psych programs are very strong, pretty small upper level classes, and easily accessible professors. Good Luck!

I'm doing my post-bac at Purchase right now. I considered Manhattanville, but I'm in the same boat as you and I couldn't afford it, and with Purchase literally around the corner it didn't make sense to pay all that money.

Purchase has its pluses and minuses. I won't go into them here, but if you're interested in the details shoot me a pm.

I will say that in the end I'm definitely glad I chose the cheaper option.

Is that where the Manhattan Jaspers play? The perennial NCAA cinderellas.

Man I am so mad that I didn't know about this Purchase has a post bac program and its not listed in the school that do. I am under the gun registering for class and get loans for school

Should I bite the bullet and take the 2 two classes at manhattanville then transfer into purchase?

What do think?

I ;m going to ask Purchase if they will take manhattanville credits.
Then I could save money.

Thanks everyone for your response.

Is anyone doing this?
Working going to school and is on their own?

Help!!!!!!

One problem with Purchase that you need to consider is that, even though they supposedly have this post-bac program for college grads whom you'd have to assume are working, none of the science classes are offered in the evening or on weekends. So if you work a 9 to 5 job, you're out of luck. I had enough flexibility in my work to schedule it around the classes, but it's a pain in the ass. I still don't get it.

The reason Purchase probably wasn't listed as having a post-bac premed program is that it's a very informal one. Basically, you get an advisor who may or may not have time for you (although the co-chair of the program, Dr. Tillotson, is very accessible), and you get access to their premedical avisory committee who will write the LoR for you. That is a big plus. Beyond that, you're on your own.

You could take the 2 classes at Manhattanville and then switch to Purchase. As long as you take at least half (I think) of the prereqs there they'll let you interview with the committee. I'd give Purchase a call, anyway, to see what they think of your situation. Good luck.

Thank you for your insight.
Did you do yours at Purchase and did you apply to medical school?

So what would you recommend? Manhattanville....Purchase?

Above is the link to Purchase's post bacc program. I'm getting my B.A. from there this month (yay!) and then beginning post-bacc work at hunter in the spring. I think quite a few people transfer from Manhattanville to Purchase (two of my roommates for instance), probably because of cost, so you shouldn't have any trouble with the credits. It may be worth trying to get into Purchase last minute.

Good Luck
