so what if you are not economically disadvantaged but disadvantaged in some other way...ie family, societal, etc...what are some of the things you guys/gals applied with?

What is the AAMC definition of disadvantage? Spcial does apply, and you just have to justify it in the application. Example: at an early age you lived in a place where not a lot of academic opportunities are available to you.

Post-bacc doesn't have to be an official program though. Nor are SMPs. Is it critical to be admitted into an official post-bacc program?

Believe it or not the definitions are federally mandated, so you may be suprised that you were either educationally, or economically disadvantaged. No, I do not believe that family is a reason, sorry.

Ya know, Im not too sure about these things. I know everyone wants to try to get their chance for these programs and med school, but just use your own best judgement.

It is my impression that these things are all relative..hehe. I think as college students, it is given that we are "disadvantage financially" in some manner.😉

My suggestion is just send it in. If you are from a rural area, in CA....i think it may apply. If it doesn't, they'll tell you and now you know. For me, compared to say the bay area, a rural place would probably have less opportunities. Regardless, they aren't going to black list you if it turns out a rural location isnt considered disadvantaged .

dunno about the deadline question.. as far as the rural area question goes, you can give it a shot, and it's possible they'll want you to explain why you consider that a disadvantage, but i'm not sure that it'll fly. in general, it refers to either a) URMs or b) financially disadvantaged students. if you also suffer from some sort of mental or physical disability that doesn't prohibit you from obtaining a full medical educatiom but has required certain accomodations in the past, you may also be considered. but geography alone? that's a tough sell.
