Okay I have a question (obviously). When you get your march 13th email saying if you matched or not will it state that you matched into an advanced AND preliminary spot if thats what you applied for (for the various fields that do this), or will it state you matched? If someone knows there list pretty well you can find out where you matched before march 16th.

i think the nrmp site said something about telling you if you matched or not, and only if you didnt match for either the prelim or advanced do they tell you which one you didnt match so you can scramble.

Diabolical.

I know, I was hoping to figure out from the e-mail whether I matched into a categorical spot or an advanced and a prelim spot, because then I would know a whole 3 days earlier what my fate was. No luck, though.

There is a detailed description of this in FAQ section of the NBME website, but the answer to your question is yes.

My dad used to answer "either or" questions with "yes".

Also, if you match your advanced spot and go unmatched for your prelim/TY you can contact the NRMP and they will tell you the city of your advanced match on March 13th so you can scramble to the geographic area of your advanced program if you wish.

I think your dean knows also - try asking him/her first. Or you can call him/her while you are on hold for NRMP - you will have plenty of time to kill during that wait!
