i have an interivew at Touro-MI on march 28, was just wondering if anyone in here is going to be there too 🙂
For those who already interviewed there... how was it? how many students were being interviewed with you? the thought of panel interview scares me...

for those of you guys that have interviews on Tuesdays, that's when we have anatomy lab from 1-3pm. I know, i know, that you guys will be exhausted by them, but since you are here, you might as will check out the anatomy lab in action. You can always bring scrubs or clothes to change into.

anyways, if interviews havn't changed much. groups of 4-6 depending applicants with 2-4 interviewers. Don't stress out that it's a panel interview - it'll be fine

do you have any idea the chances you have of being accepted to touro if you have an interview?

Overall they have about a 4 % acceptance rate (4,000 apps for 100 or so spots), but once you get an interview your chances are pretty good. It also depends on where they are in the admissions. I interviewed way back in November, so I honestly don't know where they are at this point. Remember to be professional at all times, be interested in what your fellow interviewees are saying, and ask follow-up questions to what they say. Most of all ENJOY the day. Dr. Haight will make you feel really good about being there, so try to remember all that you've done to get to this point. RELAX. They aren't looking for reasons to NOT accept you; they want to get to know you in person as opposed to on paper. On paper you've already impressed enough to get them to ask you out. Be sincere, don't kiss your interviewers' butts, and be comfortable being yourself. They aren't interested in the stodgy, science-geeky type; this is a humanistic field; they want humans. Good luck to you and let us know how it went!

I haven't gotten an interview invite yet, but do you think they would notice or mind if I just showed up on an interview day? Would that be an impressive display of my motivation to go to their school, and virtually guarantee my matriculation?( I do a very dead-on impression of David Hasselhoff disguised as a magician who would rather be a train engineer, which should help.)

Ok, how is that being a troll? Just trying to (as usual, unsuccessfully, except to myself, which is most likely enough) be funny. Anyway, how could they, and every other medical school possibly not be entirely filled to capacity at this point?

thanks for the info! this is my very first interview and probably the only one i'll have..so i want it to be the best =) when you mean ask follow-up questions you mean toward the interviewers correct? or do you also engage in questions toward the other students?

(I'm trying to triangulate these variables into an equation to see if my invite is currently in the mail and on its way to Ohio) They must be saving the best for last. honestly i dont even know why i received an interview, i'm still very surprised to be considered. i'm from illinois, i sent in my touro secondary in february and my application was complete by the end of february. my invite notice was posted march 7. my mcat was 23 and my gpa (both science and cum) is about a 3.0. and i'm not a minority by medicine's standards so i'm just thankful to be even considered 🙂

great advice about the followup questions. Definitely towards the interviewers. I remember my interview group all had great questions that showed how much interests they had in the school. I mean they had to have done some research in order to come up with the questions. Someone asked about medical spanish class, someone else about other international health opportunities. Etc. I would stay away from engaging in questions that were directed at the other applicants. Good luck!

Not sure if they are interviewing for waitlists, but when I interviewed in February, Dr. Haight said they were about to enter the second portion of the interview process where he said they tend to be a bit more selective about acceptances. I don't know about the Mare Island campus, but I was told at my Touro-NV interview that it is not primarily Jewish. They observe Jewish holidays and might perfer Jewish applicants a bit more (although they do have an equal opportunity statement). But, I think with the number of applications medical schools receive and the shear competitiveness involved it would be difficult to only accept Jewish applicants. After all, medical schools are more concerned about training successful doctors and accepting high-quality applicants and you just can't narrow those qualities down to a single religion.

I had my interview there march 13th and Dr. Height said that they were in their early 2nd phase, meaning that they still have spots open but they will be more selective in giving acceptances, so someone who would have been accepted if interviewed earlier in the cycle may get waitlisted...I personally got placed on the medium waitlist so I know I'm not going there (I already had two other acceptances when I went for the interview).

My impression at the interview was that they don't favor Jewish students, but instead want to create an environment that would be comfortable for someone who is Jewish - so they wouldn't have to compromise their beliefs to go to med school. Our interviewers also told us that they have actually only had a few students who (excuse my ignorance with the Jewish faith) followed the "super-strict" Jewish beliefs (ie. cannot participate in the dissection part of anatomy lab).
