Hi everyone,

I was caught with a bong and marijuana residue my freshman year. This is on my disciplinary record as "violation of student conduct". I will be applying this year (finishing up third year). I was wondering how much this IA would impact my chances.

Otherwise, I have a decent app: 3.73 cGPA/3.76sGPA. MCAT: 515.

I did research,(2pubs, one mid and one first, not on the Nature level), did the volunteering, did the non-clinical volunteering, have some hobbies, and the shadowing. Most def. good LORs.

CA/ORM.

Man, this IA got me so stressed ever since I got it. I actually stopped smoking weed. (I smoked heavily in high school, and quit after this IA).

Anyways, thank you all.

it’s pretty common. Many folks made mistakes during their first year of college. Since it is a one time thing it’ll be alright. Just briefly describe what happened.

Cool, thanks for the swift responses.
My school doesn't have a premed advisor so I didn't know where to go.
I'll own up to it, hopefully it doesn't hurt too much.

I had a weed IA (6 years old by the time of application)

Out of 11 interview, 2 actually asked me about it. One of those who asked then proceeded to talk about how much they loved the 1970s for like 15 minutes.

Own it and you'll be fine.

This is minor. Just check the box explaining the infraction and own it. We were all young and stupid once

To add write a VERY SHORT (3-6 lines) blurb. Probably not even that much. "Received IA weed possession for personal use as a freshman. After this incident, I stopped smoking" THATS ALL. No one will care
Hey there, thanks for the input. Do you recommend that I expand on the situation and explain how I have grown as a result. Or keep it simple: explain what happened and the immediate consequences, not the growth part?
Anyways, hope everyone stays safe.

Everything will be ok, my friend. I'm just curious how did you end up getting caught. I believe it is a little bit reckless for you to put yourself in this kind of position. I hope you can take the positives out of this experience, and that it will make you stronger and more responsible for your actions in the future. There is a strong possibility that in the next few years marijuana will be legalized and no one will care whether you're smoking it on the campus or not. But until then, you should try red maeng da instead of marijuana because it doesn't smell that bad and it will make you feel even better.
