Our Advanced Standing program allows for foreign trained dentists to enter into our DDS program at the Sophomore level only. We do not have space available each year and will not know if we'll have spaces available this year until late January or early February at the earliest. If some of our Freshman are asked to repeat the Freshman year or if any of the D1 students are dismissed, spaces will open up in the second year and then we will fill those spaces with applicants like you or potential transfer students from other dental schools in the US. To date, I do not believe we have any transfer applicants but we have 70-90 Advance Standing students who have applied. Again, if we have any spaces for Advanced Standing students we will not know that until after the second semster has begun. if we have any space students that fill those spaces will be required to complete three years of study in our curriculum. The Admissions Committee will not even have Advanced Standing students on their agenda until late January or early February.
Advanced Standing applicants must have an evaluated Dental school transcript and have completed National Board Part 1. Obviously competition for these limited spaces is very keen and to the degree that these academic credentials are just ordinary will not make a candidate competitive. Grades of c or below on a dental school transcript will not be competitive. With regard to VISA's a student must be legally able to study in the US and most candidates have a F-1 visa that we seriously consider.
As far as I know, foreign students are not eligible for any federal financial aid. This money is available only to US citizens.
We need official copies of all credentials for Committee revirew.
Candidates that the Committee is interested in will first have their academic credential scrutinized. if invited for an interview the candidate will be asked to take a chalk carving ttest as well to get a handle on manual dexterity.
Applications should be in by the end of January for serious consideration.
