For 2 dental students getting married, is there any sort of financial drawback when taking out student loans? (federal loans)

also...any input? Good/bad idea. Any experiences?

Thanks, all!

While I am not marrying a fellow dental student, I'm curious how getting married affects Fin Aid.

If your significant other is working full time, and you are a student, would you now be eligible for less Fin Aid because they are making an income (even though you are a student with no income)? Do they get any tax breaks off of you for this?

I am married and have been for 5 years. I am applying to dental school. My fin aid neve changed while I was in undergrad and grad school. I still got the max amounts, the other variable is we have kids.
When I was in my first marriage (the ex was in medical school) his fin aid was also the max amount even though I was working full time. Again the variable is kids.
I know that we get tax breaks for school supplies, and there is also a tax form you should get from your school every tax season. Plus my current husband also gets credit for the interest we pay on his student loans.
Not sure that helps but it is my experience.

What about dental students who are married to non-dental people? Does the marriage tend to suffer when you're in school/studying all day?

No, because they looked at dental students as goldmines. My two best friends in dental school are married to accountants. Now their wives do the billings and they're as happy as can be looking at the numbers!

I am so tired of all of the good guys in my dental school being attached to these ridiculous girlfriends. Granted I am not there to meet a guy, but it would have been a nice perk.
