I've been reading this board a lot. It's been great. Now I have a personal question that a lot of people do not talk about. I know people in here are pretty smart. I was wondering what percentage of the people in here poke smot. I've been pretty curious because I do and I am an applicant... I kinda wanna see how it hinders performance...I know that the stats on SDN are higher than average, that is why I am curious. Take care.

You forgot the "Yes, but I never inhaled" catagory!

As you can probably guess from my avatar, Im a big advocate for marijuana, but only smoke it once in a while....if you smoke it a lot (like some of my friends), you're stupid cause its just like drinking a lot, and its not good for you.

Anyways, I think I might have to give it up when I goto Dental School cause in Canada, its basically legal, but I dont want to get caught with it in the States and lose any opportunity for me to get my citizenship. Is it easy to get it in the States?

This does not belong in this forum.

just a little to take teh edge off, too much will make you stupid.
Although i do think you got the wrong forum for it, instead go to www.overgrow.com

My observation is that smoking pot tends to make people lazy rather than stupid per se. Lazy may be the wrong word. I would say puffers tend to become more content with their present circumstances and loose their propensity to be future orientated.

That's possible.

groundhog is that your personal experience? How did you come to such a conclusion?
Maybe it's lazy people smoking pot instead of pot making people lazy.

I think it's a valid question, albeit really unexpected. I was actually wondering the same thing the other day. I'm sure? hold your breath... that there are dentists out there who have smoked pot before. I?ve met a dentist who enjoyed nitrous occasionally?there are all different types of people in dentistry. I don?t condone that action at all though. In fact, a big trend on Wall St. is for young professionals to replace their after work cocktail with a personally rolled ?cigarette?. I got this from Details, so take it with a grain of salt. Hah, Details.

I went to Bonnaroo this year and camped next to a neurologist and a cardiologist who were both apparently very good at what they did. Lets just say those guys knew their drugs... must have been osteopaths (j/k don't flame me). I don't smoke. I've been using EPO and a load of other illegal performance enhancing substances though. You should see the stretch marks... I think a few people around here should smoke a little bit sometimes. That Flong guy is a huge pothead?he told me.. j/k bud. 😉

WOW 51% here are virgins.

I hate to say it - but 1/3 of my classmates were potheads. One guy in the Class of 2003 - was so stupid he could barely talk - I can't believe he graduated and passed CRDTS!

I personally never cared to try - to busy trying to stay healthy and training.

No, US citizenship is not easy; unless you get married to an american. Working there is easy on a TN - but you will never be able to own your own practice and it must be renewed every year; so whats the point. That's why I moved back to Ontario and I Love working the canada 10X better.

If you're a Canadian you cant own a practice in the states?? Why is that? I plan to work in the US after I'm done, and I hope to run a practice down there. Can't you just classify yourself as a landed immigrant?

Sorry I should have clarified........I have permanent residency in the States (I got a green card) through my father cause he was sponsored by a company in the States and we got it 2 years ago......so I got like 3-4 years until I can get my citizenship!

Dentaldream.....Good Luck being a landed immigrant! Unless your sponsored, its almost impossible from what I hear (especially in the times of high security regarding immigration these days)....I was very lucky I got it through my dad cause I was under 21 at the time.....my bro didnt get it 😀

Running your own practice is like opening up a business down there.....VERY DIFFICULT if you aint a citizen or resident. Coming from Canada is like coming from India, you're both international citizens, so you can imagine it aint easy! Look more into it though. Dr. Rob, did you have much loans doing your education in the US? Cause honestly, I really cant imagine how Canadians are successful if they are gonna have $200 000 debt in American dollars and will be forced to open their practice in Canada....they will be in debt forever, unless you could clarify?

I dont smoke, but I dont see why it should not be legal to use in private... Private meaning somewhere where others dont have to smell the stink. So maybe possession of marijuana should be legal, but use of marijuana should be illegal thus forcing the users to make sure they respect other peoples air.

I hate to admit, and I guess it is not surprising to others, based on my low GPA, that I once was a pothead. I personally hate smoking pot now and have no desire to resume after four years without. My GPA low due to one horrific first year.
However, I do not think pot makes one lazy. I think the laziness an affect of that person's current attitude. Some one who risk his job and family by doing illegal acts does not care about himself or others around him; so, why should he/she care about doing well in school?

Pothead=laziness=steriotype

Well, ya know with all the stress of being a predent.....😀
*tries to hand Gavin some pot*

One of the smartest people in our dental school smokes pot on a regular basis, so just some evidence that one can smoke the green and still keep up stellar grades.

A good friend of mine was the biggest stoner in the world. He had all the weird gadgets and stuff to go along with it too. He would easily smoke up like 2-3 times a day since he was a sophomore in high school. The thing I never understood--He was valedictorian of his high school (perfect gpa) and in college he still has a perfect gpa. He never misses a day of class and isn't lazy at all. I guess it just has different effects on different people.

I agree. I think for some people, smoking doesn't necessarily have any negative effects. I smoke pretty much every day, even smoked the night before the DAT to relax. In my opinion, it's a pretty harmless habit.

Yeah, my class really challenged the lazy pothead stereotype. The potheads in my class were in the top of the class, academically.

This one guy was a freaking genious...I mean he was scary-smart....smoked almost every single day.

Honestly, he was SO Type-A, I think he needed it to balance him out. Anyway, I don't think pot will change you, as a person. If you're a loser and smoke pot, you'll be even more of a loser.

However, there are some extremely high-functioning people out there who smoke, also. I say, hey, whatever works for you.

When I saw this thread bumped to the top from the depths below, I thought for certain the newest comment would be, "Weed is better after getting an acceptance letter." Guess not.

BTW, I've never tried it.
