Hey I just got a secondary from Maryland on Friday and I know it means an interview invite. I have been accepted to Kentucky and with an acceptance I base my decision on going to the interview on cost and if I could see myself attending. I had an interview at Maryland last year and was very impressed by the school and all of the new technological aspects of the school. I am curious if anyone had the most recent cost of attendance of Maryland. Kentucky is 80K and I will not be able to become a resident. Maryland on the other hand I have heard most people can become a resident which would help cut down the cost. However I also feel that it will be more expensive to live in Baltimore vs Lexington.

Since this is a post dec 1 interview I know my chances of being accepted are less and therefore want to have as much information as possible before I spend 400 dollars on a flight and hotel. Thanks everyone

i just interviewed at maryland and loved it. the possibility of becoming a resident as well was also pretty enticing.

however, some admissions people and the students interviewing us made it pretty clear that obtaining residency (at least recently) has been really difficult. seems like they are cracking down... do some research on the process of obtaining residency... but dont let that deter you from UMD, its a beautiful school.

so for out of staters, maryland is about 40,000-50,000 a year? Can anybody who interviewed there or goes there currently confirm?

those costs are per semester (look at the top of the sheet)...although i dont have the packet with me, when i interviewed there, im pretty sure they said it was around 87k a year for out of state

yes but according to that sheet, it looks like each semester is around 25k, so unless there are more fees for summer school or something, shouldn't it make it not much more than 50 or 60k/yr? I may be missing something...

at the beginning of the interview day, everyone listens to dr. meehan give a short presentation about the school. it's a great school, this, that, facilities, opportunities, etc. Then right after there is the finance section of the presentation where the student aid person comes in and talks.

for out of states it is around 80,000 a year if i remember correctly.
for in state it is around 60,000 a year.

the difference is the tuition, which is 40,000 for out of staters and around 20,000 for in staters.

*naturally take my numbers with a grain of salt, because i am so used to rounding numbers, numbers could be more like 45k or 84k or 44k...

plus, i heard it is not a given that you will be able to attain in state status, or at least its not as easy as just changing your license and registering to vote.
