Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone has any info about Maryland General Hospital. Is it a good hospital. They have a hard time filling their spots. If anyone has done a transitional year there, could you please comment.
Thank

The hospital has had some bad press lately regarding the incorrect reading of HIV test results.

They also have the lowest pass rate in the state of Maryland from the ABIM (65%).

I am not a resident there but I go to school in the area and I've heard that a few years ago they had their transitional residents functioning as surgery residents b/c surgery didn't fill. They have had major problems in their lab as the above poster mentioned. It is in the U Maryland hospital system but the attendings at MD General are not teaching faculty at University of Maryland. Frankly I would look elsewhere.

Thanks guys for the info.
Is the hospital located in a nice place? or is it downtown baltimore?
Is it a "cush" residency or not?
Any other info would be appreciated.

Well, since it appears you're still interested despite the above, it is located in Downtown Baltimore, near Eutaw and Martin Luther King Aves. Not exactly the plushest area of town. Haven't been inside the hospital so I cannot comment on how it looks or whether the TY is "cush".

Just thought i'd put in my 2 cents...

I did my last rotation there (pathology) and had the opportunity to attend the medical grand rounds (tuesdays) and tumor boards (one thursday each month). Some residents seem to know what they were talking about, others were quiet during discussions.

Dr. Anthony seems to be a really friendly, outgoing, and seems to be the type who wants to teach.

The hospital looks really horrible on the outside (rundown brown brick), but was impressive on the inside. Apparently, the ER was redone. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to take a look.

It's a community hospital serving the poor in Baltimore. Nearby is the University of Maryland hospital.

hope this helps.
