Hey guys,

So I'm doing my ADT at Walter Reed and I was wondering if anyone can shed a light on tax exemption for hotels in DC. B/c most hotels are charging rates that are at the max per diem, any taxes on it will push me over. I heard that we can get lodging tax exemption. Any ideas how?

Thanks!

Don't worry about it, get the govt rate and turn in the receipt when it's time. You will be fully reimbursed. There's a reason all the hotels set their govt rate at the govt rate for that area. You don't have to hassle with some random tax status mess.

You can itemize taxes as a seperate expense and it will be paid.

Our guidance is to show one of the following letters depending on the state:

http://apps.fas.gsa.gov/services/gsa-smartpay/taxletter/letters08.cfm

If the form is not honored then add hotel tax as a separate itemized expense. Most of the states require that the hotel is either centrally billed or you use a govt CC.

Also, if available you could stay at the Navy Lodge at Bethesda - regular free shuttle to WRAMC.
