Hi All,
I would like to know if anyone would mind sparing a few minutes and providing me with some insight to the Maryland interview process. I have read some good posts but the ones I found were pretty old. Additionally, does anyone know if they still have seats available or is it likely these positions are for waitlist spots? My interview is on Feb 10th. Finally, does anyone have any idea as to the likelihood of receiving an acceptance after receiving an interview and the time it took to receive the acceptance? I am getting pretty anxious as this is my first and only interview so far out of the 14 schools I picked. Any and all advice will be appreciated. I apologize if there is a similar post to this that I have overlooked.

I am sure they will still have seats in February...and because it is getting late in the game they will probably notify you fairly quickly.

Yeah some of the interview feedback pages are old, but they are right on the money. I went through most of the posts and made a word document of all of the different questions that people were asked. Then I went over the tricky ones during my flight and while waiting in the airport. Every single question that I was asked during the interview was on the interview feedback page. I actually felt kind of bad because it was so easy.

Overall, it is very non-stressful interview day. The interview is at the very end and it consists of a faculty member and a 4th year. They didn't seem to know my file very well or probably at all so be prepared to elaborate on some things in your application. Make sure you are talking to both people. Sometimes when you are interviewing with two people it is easy to get in the zone and only make eye contact with only one person.

Advice, at the end they told us that if we really wanted to go to Maryland then we should send them an email stating this. I would do this right after you interview in combination with a thank you email. Good luck and just have a good time. It is impossible to not be impressed with the school.

Worst interview ever.... and most people i talked to at other interviews agree. They have a script they ask you and its very rushed. They write down your answer and their is absolutely no conversation. Why dentistry.... strengths and weaknesses, ethical decision, schools you applied to, etc... its the same for everyone. What kind of school does not even care enough to have a genuine conversation with its future students. Nice facilities, but the interview really turned me off.

I had a completely different interview experience then this. Like most schools, except Kentucky (which is strictly conversation-based, and was the most laid-back interview I went on), Maryland does have a couple questions that are asked to everyone. I actually interviewed with Dr. Meehan (Assistant Dean of Admissions and Recruitment), and a 4th year. They knew my file extremely well and asked me about my various dental experiences, hobbies, what it was like to be a D1 student-athlete, and also how I came to the decision of wanting to become a dentist, etc.

They do want to know the reason why you applied to Maryland and what decision-making processes you are going to use if you get accepted to multiple schools. If I didn't get into UNC, I would of definitely accepted their offer in December. The interview was pretty laid-back. As with most interviews, the direction of the conversation will depend solely on where you want it to go. Goodluck Feb 10th. I am sure that you will be extremely impressed by their program, facilities, and faculty.

Yeah, my interview experience was also the complete opposite of what nydds25 said. Very relaxed and conversational. They did have set questions, but they were very good at asking non-scripted follow up questions to find out more about me. My interviewer was one of the most genuinely friendly interviewers I had. He even replied to my thank you note. Just look over the questions on the interview feedback database and you will be set. Good luck! Hopefully I'll see you in August.

I spelled her name right in my thank you e-mail. Sorry that some people write posts fast and don't check for spelling errors, etc. I like the grammatical errors in your post though. I guess you don't know that "didnt" is supposed to be "didn't". Nice try on the spelling. I applaud your effort and lack of use of an apostrophe.

The point of the post was to help out the OP Panther, not to please people like you.

No problem...I submitted my application on Aug 3 and took the DAT on September 2.

Thanks. your answer also makes me nervous b/c i also applied to maryland. i submitted my appl on 6/28, but took my DAT on 7/15. My revised application was sent to all dental schools by Mid august.
I haven't heard from maryland or any other schools yet. I tried to email some of the schools and a couple replied back by saying that my application is under review and telling me to be patient. What's going on w/ my application?

I have 150 hours of shadowing experience and over 100 hours of research experience.
