Can anyone here offer any insight into the pre-med programs at Towson, UMBC or UMD College Park? How are the acceptance rates from these places, respectively? Are they known for high attrition rates?

So, at any of those institutions, you're gonna have plenty of premed wannabes who will drop off along the journey. Organic chemistry tends to be the weed-out class at UMCP. Some people struggle with physics, too, but I don't think it's really that tough and you'll definitely learn it well. I went to UMCP and came out with strong numbers and am now getting ready to graduate from Duke. You can definitely do well coming from there. I don't have personal experience at the other places, but my impression is that UMCP is stronger than UMBC and Towson. I felt like my classes at UMCP, both the basic premed classes and my upper level bio classes, prepared me VERY well to start medical school.
I transferred to towson last semester from CC , took some pre-reqs at cc level but plan on taking the remaining at towson chem2,phys1,2. I am a Exercise science major , but so far the school has a very close knit feel for a school that has ~18,000 students ,not sure if that figure includes Graduate students.
If you're looking at public schools in Maryland, give St. Mary's (not Mount St. Mary's) a look. It's kind of a...different...school, but has a really high acceptance rate, probably because its such a small school so there's lot of personal attention. PM me if you want more details.
