Stage 1: Physiological(undergrad): Celebrating every time there is a Whoot!!Whoot!! Post because COCA is opening a new school.
Stage 2: Safety (OMS 1 and 2): Freeking out every time there is a Whoot!! Whoot!! Post because you think the market is saturated.
Stage 3: Love/Belonging (OMS 3 and 4): Wondering(obsessing) who will love you in the Match.
Stage 4: Esteem (Residency) Wondering if this prestigious residency made a mistake when they selected you. Looking for respect from your attendings
Stage 5: Self-actualization (Board Certified Attending) Realizing that you’re one bad %^* hombre and that all that worrying was not needed!!

Stage VI — realizing you are governed and ruled by administration, patient satisfaction surveys, and the all-mighty click box EMR software. Then going on an emotional decline that correlates with zero-order kinetics until the eventual burn-out and understanding that you’re just another cog with a mountain of debt in the wheel of capitalism.

Sorry I’m an Anesthesiologist... we don’t have any of that... We have enhanced recovery from surgery which emphasizes multimodal pain control/ nerve blocks which pay a lot of $$$.

Stunning DO realization: “I will prolly match community Family medicine or IM”

Self actualization as an attending: “My Parents we’re right, I should have gone to Dental school. 3 days/week making 300k sounds good right about now.”

There seems to be a lot of posts of doom and gloom in the DO thread.... I was talking to one of our new ENTs who attended an IVY League Medical School and Residency and she was complaining that our group wouldn’t pay for her massive school loans but it pays for the new Family Practice grads loans... So complaining is not just a D.O. Thing. We need more Primary Care Docs in my neck of the woods ....and my group was willing to pay an arm and a leg to get some.

Just curious what region of the country you are in and what practice model you guys have. You seem quite upbeat for an PP Anesthesiologist.

CRNAs? Employee or partner (real senior partner track not the fake one). Also if you have a second, what is the future like for your group, are they taking new partners going to sell out to some MCO etc.

Appreciate the answers, especially about Anesthesia (I really want to like it but the future/CRNAs etc). So if you were you, but in med school, do you think you would have even similar opportunities to do what you did?

Well when I was at WesternU 1998-2002 we had all the worries you guys have today... Midlevel providers trying to intrude... Just do what you like and let the chips fall where they fall... Try to live as frugally as possible in Med School and Residency... I was helped out by the Financial Collapse of 2007-2008 which made Stock prices low so I was able to buy a lot of stocks/index funds at a discount... Sometimes you get lucky....
