Hey guys,
I'm a new medical student starting this fall. I was wondering if anyone have thoughts on a combine masters/MD program? How did people find it? I definitely have an interest in research, and will probably be doing some research in the future. But I was thinking why not pursue a masters while I'm at it?

I also recently discovered that there are programs that allow you to do it over the summer, so 3x summer so technically it would allow you to graduate with MD and MSc at the same time. Now I am assuming that this is a course-based masters, which would differ to research based masters. But I'm not too sure what the difference is, other than you don't do a thesis (or at least from what I understand). Now would having a course based masters help with residency applications? Or is this not really helpful?

Having that said, I have just recently looked into this and am totally clueless about the process and would love to hear some feedback from others.

Thanks in advance! 🙂

They typically throw in an extra year for that. It is close to impossible to squeeze out three summers for a masters program within the normal 4 year schedule.

The problem is, you only get one summer off in med school. 2 if you decide to take all your vacation months off during the summer, but then you are going to be screwed come interview time.
