I decided that I am not going to apply to medical school this year but instead should improve my application. I am very interested in immunology and virology and was thinking about doing the ScM program at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. There is a molecular microbiology and immunology program that sounds very interesting. However, I'm not really sure how competitive it would be to get in. I know it's easier to get in a master's program than a PhD one but this is Hopkins.. Does anyone know? I couldn't find any average stats.

I applied to the biochem/molecular bio program at the same school, and it does not seem very competitive at all, but who knows, the admission director at your department of interest may be different but I doubt it.

Below's a link to a thread on the MHS in Reproductive Bio in the Biochem/Molecular Bio. department. I have no idea who runs the MMI departmental masters programs @ JHSPH. Although the deadline for the MHS/ScM has passed for the Reprod. bio program (June 1st), I'm not sure about the MMI program deadline. You could always email/call Dr. Zirkin, head of the biochem/mol bio program, to get more information on that. He's really cool, too. 😎 Apparently, you take a few required classes in the department and you're allowed to take any assortment of classes that you want including those in the MMI department. The program's supposed to be fairly flexible depending on our interests. He might also be able to tell you if there's any availability in this program or give you some information about the MMI program.

Also, there are is a good amount of people in that thread who you can try to contact who've been in the reprod. bio program and may be able to answer your questions more thoroughly or might be able to tell you more about the MMI department's program. 😀

I'm seriously considering 2 programs at JH's school of public health and would like to know how competitive it is to get in (gre, gpa, etc) and what can increase chances (work experience, research...) Any thoughts?
