Hello everyone.

I would like to pursue a career in academics, since I enjoy this dynamic of learning and sharing knowledge with people, but for the same reason I think that I should begin with a Master of Science, and I don´t know if there are programs which could be consider relatively short, like a year. Most of the programs are associated to a residency, which at the moment I am simply not interested; I want to keep my options open for the future. Maybe there is an alternative, like a fellowship or something, I ask because I don't know everything.

Any recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks

Maybe a masters in teaching if you’re not looking for a dental residency. If you’re still in school you may even be able to arrange an MS in teaching as a dual degree. Online programs may also exist.

A fast way to become a more knowledgeable dentist and thus a better teacher is by completing a good AEGD or GPR. Personally I think the residency route could open more doors, but then again, I’m not in academia.

I think it depends on what you plan on teaching.

I agree that AEGD or GPR would be ideal if you are going to be a clinical or sim clinic professor.

A master's in teaching or some other field would be more ideal if you are planning on teaching pre-clinical courses or more didactic instruction.
