I am currently applying this cycle and enrolled in a masters in bioengineering sub-matriculation from my undergrad. It's looking like it would be unlikely that I can finish my masters this year. I am applying MD not MD/PhD, but I know a lot of schools offer MD/MS programs. Should I look to transfer these credits? Apply them to a PhD (which I plan to eventually get but I've been told I'm not competitive for MD/PhD GPA-wise)? Alternatively, I know that some med schools, such as the one where I'm doing a masters, allow for students to take a year out to do a masters anywhere. Is this very rare? I'd like to finish the masters program at this school since it's a better engineering school than most of the med schools I'm applying to. Sorry for the rambling post, just looking for some general advice here.

It is quite common for medical students to complete a Master's degree during their enrollment.
I is rare for a Medical School to accept credits acquired prior to matriculation, though.
