I have been kicking this idea around in my head and have been unable to shake free of it. I have been wondering if completing pre-med courses while getting a masters in statistics is reasonable. I graduated from a reputable school with a decent GPA (3.8+), math major, and with multiple academic honors. I will have a gap year between graduating and starting a masters in statistics. I have already secured a position helping at risk youth for the year in between, just a program I have always been interested in and this is the only chance I would have to work with it.
With a gap year I could go ahead and take some of the pre-reqs (not at my alma matter but at a much cheaper decent area school) in the fall/spring and still have time to volunteer. This along with summer courses, would leave me with only needing about 1 additional class per semester for the time I am completing my masters. I would have time to take the mcat the summer after year 1 of my masters (with all the prereq mcat courses met).
Both working in statistics or continuing on with a med degree would be great. I was wondering if I could get any feedback from people obtaining masters not designed specifically for overcoming a low undergrad gpa or focused on med school admissions. I just want to make sure I am making the most of my opportunities since it is always easier when you are younger to do things like this. Thanks for your help
