Masters Programs for Re-Applicants

For those of you who have re-applied and have been successful after getting a masters degree/improving GPA- which programs have you done/heard of? I'm from NC but anything would be helpful!

I can only really speak for Florida SMP programs but there's one at Barry which is down near Ft. Lauderdale/Miami. Apparently they have some connections with Nova. There's also a SMP at USF in Tampa. You might want to look into some that guarantee you an interview at a dental school if you maintain a certain GPA in the masters program (Midwestern comes to mind). Good luck

There are a bunch of threads on this topic. Search "Dental SMP". Some that come to mind are: BU, NYU, Tufts, Tulane, UMDNJ (now Rutgers), Barry (like Teeths said), and a few others.

I searched the forums when i was applying, there are a ton of biomedical science masters programs all over the countryn . Im in one now, they don't work for everyone but if you need to prove yourself in terms of your gpa, then they're the best way to do it. Lot of work and money but they do the trick, dental schools love them and they're a great thing to talk about at interviews. Good luck!

check out NCSU's Masters of Physiology program. I'm in my second year, and have already received two interviews after earning 3.7 in the program

I did the Tufts SMP. Highly recommend it, I know lots of people from my class who are now at various dental schools.

I'm applying this cycle and I've found it's also a nice thing to bring up at interviews.

I did the MS program in Biomedical Sciences at Regis University in Denver, CO. I had a great experience and its only a 1 year program. There were three of us who were pre-dental; one is in DS now and two of us just got in on December 2nd. The program gives you a lot to talk about during interviews (maturity, teamwork, academic stamina, etc.) and gives you a Master's in a year = awesome!

I'm from Maryland. I had a 2.8 science and a 3.0 overall. I never took the DAT. I went to Midwestern U in Arizona for a one year masters. I got a 3.95 (all science courses you would take in your first year of dental school). After I took my DAT, got a 26 overall and now I got accepted in Maryland, Nova, Midwestern, UPenn.

I highly recommend this masters program. 1) got me academically and mentally prepared for dental school 2) got me ready for the DAT 3) I feel like I'm gonna crush year 1 cuz it's all the same material 4) great great great school.

Also it's especially geared towards students like us. 50% of our class was predent, 40% premed and 10% prepharm/optometry/podiatrics etc

You can also go to MS programs that essentially pay you! These are two years long usually and are research based. I am in one now at UNCW and its great that I don't have to pay for it! I am also doing research that interests me and will give me you a lot to talk about in an interview

Does anybody have any insight on which smp is 'better', as in, which would you all choose? USF or Barry? I also have UNTHSC on my radar but it seems like nobody outside Texas has any opinions on it. Though, Texas med schools seem like it
