Are there master's programs that offer their students the option of continuing for a PhD or PsyD (if they so choose so), and how reputable are these programs? Also, how would a student line up a POI or research focus as I imagine they would be restricted by what the program has to offer? Would it have to be decided before applying to the Master's?

New School for Social Research has a program structured like that. From what I have read on this message board, the tension of wondering who will make it into the PhD program can cause a bit of competitiveness and anxiety.
