I am currently reapplying (20 schools)(mailing date was 7/4). The first time I took the DAT I had scores of :

PAT-17 QR-14 Bio-18 Gchem-19 Ochem-18 RC- 18 TS-18 AA-17

I received 2 interviews and 2 waitlists. gpas were around 3.5

I retook the DAT this june before applying and received

PAT- 22 QR- 17 Bio- 18 Gchem- 20 Ochem- 22 RC- 20 TS- 20 AA-19

Ogpa- 3.45 Sgpa-3.4

Just wondering if anyone has experience in what to do during the year in limbo?

I was accepted to a Master's program, but would rather not waste 40,000 + just to raise my gpa like what, 0.1 at most. Also, I have taken many upper level biology courses (biochem, anatomy, micro, genetics, cell bio, etc) already. I see no benefit in taking a masters program and spending the money because; A) I have taken many upper level courses, its not like I just did pre-reqs and B) I feel my gpa is fairly competitive as is and wouldn't raise much even with a 4.0 in a masters.

I feel that getting a job in a healthcare field or dental office would be a better bet, and I would make money. Also, I plan on going to Haiti in January for a dental mission trip, which would conflict with 10 days of my masters program.

I feel like I am a respectable applicant at this point, but just don't want to look lazy by not continuing classwork.

Thanks and any advice is appreciated.

If I were you I wouldn't do the masters program- that is too much money for little benefit. You seem to have brought your DAT up to where it needs to be in conjunction with your GPA and since you had success in gaining interviews last cycle I can't imagine the same not happening this time around.

Go with your instincts and get a job in a dental office.

your GPA is sufficient, so don't waste money on a masters... there's no reason you shouldn't get in (esp to your state school)

I agree, don't bother with a masters. That's a lot of money and effort for little gain. You brought up your DAT significantly which I think will give you better luck this round.
