As if finalizing the ROL was not enough stress (My #1 requires me to sell off all of my worldly possessions, my #2 put me in a place where I have to wear a bullet proof vest, my #3 is in the sticks! Seriously cows everywhere!). . .

Our school has a big showboating match day. It is optional but I'm game - I did an MD/PhD and I am ready to dress up in a sexy green dress and open that envelope with glee.

The question is what song should I choose? Each MS4 gets 45 seconds of a song as they approach the stage. I want to keep it upbeat but realistic.

What are your favorite match day songs? If you have already been there done that, what did you choose?

I am thinking:
You can't always get what you want - by the Rolling Stones
Katmandu - the Sam Morrison version

But I know they are pretty lame. Help!!! :luck:

Since you did MD/PhD, maybe Pink floyd "we don't need not education"

Maybe the part: "if you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding! How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat." Reminds me of philosophy class. . .

I'm on a Bon Jovi kick this week, so my vote goes for his hit "It's My Life".

"Born to Run" from The Boss.

Fortunately I am not subjected to this as we get our evelopes and read them outside...however I'd have to go with Weird Al's "Like a Surgeon"

"I finally made it through med school...
I made it through-ooo-ooo
I was last, in my class,
Barely Passed, at the institute...
Now I'm trying to avoid a mal practice suit!!!"

This thread is already going in the EM forum. My votes are:

1. This Year by the Mountain Goats.
Key line: "I am gonna make it through this year, if it kills me."
(This applied both to intern year as well as the first year of my daughter's life which were a little too coincident for my sanity.)

2. F*** You - Cee Lo Green.

(FTR, I loved both my med school and residency.)

Best I've heard was that song on the Price is Right they play when they walk up to the stage :D

Depends on what you're matching into.

Anesthesia? There's a few songs by some anesthesiologists online that are pretty funny.
Surgery? Weird Al. Definitely. Or "First Cut is the Deepest"
EM? Something from Mother Jugs and Speed.
Psych? Unwell by Train.
Path? Darth Vader's theme.
Struggle through school? Hallelujah Chorus.
Non-Trad or going into geriatrics? Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel.

Totally depends on what you are matching into.

Well, if we really want to go old school 80's rock songs:

Stan Bush, "The Touch" from Transformers: The Movie. And yes, They did make a video for a cartoon movie.

Then there is a one from Irene Cara (of "Flashdance" and "Fame" Fame:

"The Dream (Hold On To Your Dream)" from the DC Cab soundtrack. A song that got me through a few things when I was a bit frustrated.

And make sure you have your Wookie friend cueing the cheers when you make it.

And last, but never least, a little Queen:

I just realized how much I dated myself in this. >.<

To continue this theme:
Psych: "Crazy" by Patsy Kline, or "21st century schizoid man" by king crimson.
Plastics: "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix-a-lot.
Path: Anything by the Necros (punk rock era), or the Greatful Dead.
