Match Day

I thought you can see where you match on the NRMP site?

I was under the same impression...

You can look one hour after the match day ceremonies (at 1 pm Eastern instead of noon).
I think the results get posted at 1 pm... my school pretty much requires attendance at Match Day but no way in hell am I going to stand in front of a crowd (it's very formal) and open the envelope that determines the next three years of my life. I'm private about big things like that.

Exactly my feeling on the matter. Although I would love to be there to support my fellow classmates, sitting at home in front of my computer surrounded by family is a little more appealing to me when learning my fate, at least for the next three years of my life.
I'm debating whether or not to take a mini-vacation for the weekend, like leave on Wednesday for London.
BUT my parents just told me that they want to fly out to my school for the Match day stuff. Hmmmm... my dad's enjoying retirement a little too much.

I don't think we have such a thing. (Esp not for us heretics going over to the allopathic side). I don't really mind -- not big on ceremony, annoyed that graduation sounds mandatory. But I have to wait an extra hour because my school doesn't throw me a party?
Hey, I know it's a stressful time (having matched Integrated Plastics back in 2003), but it you survived Black Monday (finding out if you matched or not), Match Day should be a big party with your classmates. Granted, my medschool class was very close and there was a genuine desire to share in everybody's success. Go have some fun and make sure someone is available as a sober driver!

I don't think I would be comfortable opening my envelope in front of everyone, so I'm sorry you are required to attend that. At my school, everyone gathers in an auditorium and finds out all at once. So, each person is reacting to the match at the same time, not paying attention to anyone else's first reaction. For those who do not want to go, attendance is not required. I kind of like that system.

That's how my school did it. Everybody gets their envelope at once, so there's no pressure to stand in front of everyone else.
From what I've heard, at my school, they randomly call people up, after having all of the envelopes in a big raffle spinning thing. As each person comes up, they put a dollar in something, and the last person called gets the money.
I think you can wait to open up the envelope until you get back to your table. I still don't really want to go. Even though we're all supposed to be in the area in case of the scramble, we don't technically have to be there on Match day.

I dunno. In my situation (and the bragging begins...) I've got plenty of interviews to match based on the NRMP data and I'd have to go about halfway down my match list before I'd be "disappointed". So for myself and my friends in this situation, I think having the big formal "walk up on stage" and read match day would be fun and a lasting memory.
However, I know there are people in my class who aren't so lucky as us and are worried about were they're going to end up next year. Or maybe they just don't like having a lot of attention paid to them. So for them I understand the desire to receive the information in private.
