Match ortho from community program?

I am a rising M1 at a small, community school that is focused on getting their students into rural FM residencies.

How can I maximize my chances of marching into orthopedics. We don’t have a home ortho program and only had 5 ortho matches in the past match cycle.

I’m doing ortho research and had a poster at a national conference and have 2 publications in the works (2nd author & 3rd author) but what are other ways that I can maximize my chances?

Obviously step 1 isn’t an option for me to stand out, and I’ll do everything I can to maximize AOA chances. Is there anything else other than research that I should be looking to do?

What did those 5 people do who matched into ortho?

Whatever that was, do that. Ask them if you can contact them. Find out whom their mentors were. Etc.
