Hello. I am new to the website, and stumbled across it looking for answers. I am completely confused as to how the match process works. I am in the throws of calculating interview costs, and figuring out how many migraines I can have to stretch the interview time per rotation (Kidding). I am still confused on how the whole process works after the interviews are done, and my pantyhose are completely shot.
How do you figure out who you rank, to give yourself the best chance at getting into the program you want. Do you rank everyone or can you leave a program off the list? You may be wondering, "Well didn't her school explain all of this?". Well, polite reader, not really... 😕 My confusion became magnified by the shotty explanation. I appreciate all inquiries and welcome any comments.

The NRMP website should answer most of your questions.

When it comes to ranking programs, RANK IN YOUR ORDER OF PREFERENCE. That's how to "give yourself the best chance at getting into the program you want." Yes, of course you can leave programs off the list. You should NOT rank a program that you hated.

RTFM.

The NRMP Website. All the answers you need. The Match is very simple.

[edit: see, this answer must be twice as good.]

The way you rank the programs does not increase or decrease your chances of getting in at any place. In reality, its how the programs rank you in their list. If two programs rank you No 1 on their list say program A and program B, and your rank list is
NO 1 program A
No 2 program B
then you will match at A
